My go-to clarifying/chelating shampoo!

Kinky Curly Come Clean shampoo is a mild hair and scalp cleansing formulation. The product is developed using green and biodegradable ingredients for a skin-friendly cleansing experience.

It is ideally suitable for sensitive scalps and dry porous hair. It works for every porosity level, whether it’s low, medium, or high.

The formulation also targets removing hard metal ions from the scalp and hair surface.

It contains several natural organic extracts that make it extra gentle on the skin and counteracts the potential irritations caused by cleansing surfactants.

Ingredient listing:

Purified water, Organic Mandarin Orange Fruit, Organic Marigold Flower, Organic White Willow Bark, Organic Sea Kelp, Sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine (coconut derived), Phytic Acid, Citric acid, Sea salt, Phenoxyethanol, Natural fragrance.

Now that we have a brief overview of the Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo, let’s explore in greater detail what makes this product so exceptional and how each ingredient contributes to its efficacy.

Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo Ingredient Breakdown

Natural Extracts

The product contains four organic extracts; Organic Mandarin Orange Fruit, Organic Marigold Flower, Organic White Willow Bark, and Organic Sea Kelp.

These natural extracts are a source of flavonoids, polyphenols, and antioxidant molecules. They protect scalp and hair proteins against free radical-mediated oxidation damage, which improves scalp health and protects against inflammation.

Sodium C14 – 16 Olefin Sulfonate

Olefin sulfonate is a long-chain anionic surfactant. It is sulfate-free as the sulfonate functional group is completely different from the sulfate.

Sulfonates are known for their ease in biodegradability and mildness.

The C14 – 16 denotes the length of the carbon chain bonded to the sulfonate anionic group. It generates a rich creamy lather and effectively solubilizes sebum, oils, and product residue.

Cocoamidopropyl Betaine

This ingredient is included as a co-surfactant that is blended with sulfonate. It has the quality of being amphoteric, gentle on the skin, and mild.

With its addition to primary surfactants, it elevates flash foam generation, increases foam volume, and maintains foam stability for longer durations while also reducing surface tension – thereby contributing to superior cleansing results.

Phytic Acid and Citric Acid

Phytic acid is a green alternative to traditional metal chelating agents. It captures calcium and magnesium ions and removes them during the rinse-off stage.

Metal ions can have a negative impact on the detergency and foamability of cleaning solutions.

Furthermore, they bind to the scalp and hair shaft resulting in an accumulation of metal particles that changes the physical properties of your hair fiber as well as its appearance.

Citric acid is a buffering agent that lowers the pH of the formulation. It is a green and nature-derived acidifying agent abundantly present in all citrus fruits.

Sea Salt

Sea salt is a natural blend of table salt (sodium chloride) and other inorganic minerals.

The trace amounts of essential minerals work with your scalp to regenerate cells and remove dead layers from the surface area which is particularly effective for those suffering from dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis.

Sea Salt is truly nature’s own exfoliant!

Phenoxyethanol

Phenoxyethanol is a safe and mild preservative that has been added to the formulation to protect it against microbial growth. It does not pose any adverse reactions or damage your skin.

The formulation does not contain parabens, isothazolinones, formaldehyde, or any formaldehyde–releasing preservative. This exemplifies the formulation’s overall approach to skin health.

Natural Fragrance

The product contains a natural aromatic fragrance offering a cool, calm freshening aroma. Plus, its formulation is free of synthetic fragrances, making it green, sustainable, and gentle on your skin.

Is the Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo a Chelating Shampoo?

Phytic acid and Citric acid together work synergistically to chelate metal ions.

The presence of citric acid in Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo creates the ideal acidic environment for phytic acid to bind with metal ions, thereby allowing it to effectively remove calcium and magnesium from the aqueous solution, scalp, and hair surface.

It’s no wonder why this shampoo can rightly be regarded as a Chelating Shampoo!

It’s essential to eliminate these metal deposits, as they can decrease the mechanical strength, elasticity, and responsiveness of hair to styling products.

The Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo can be used weekly to remove these metallic residues from the hair surface and restore it to its original state.

Is The Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo a Clarifying Shampoo?

Yes, Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo is a clarifying shampoo. It contains sulfonates which are excellent cleansing agents that work to remove product build-up, dirt, oils, and other impurities from your scalp and hair.

Moreover, it’s packed with Cocoamidopropyl Betaine which enhances the shampoo’s ability to generate more foam and form a rich creamy lather.

This helps it effectively solubilize dirt and oils while also increasing the shampoo’s cleaning power.

Note, a chelating shampoo (with extra EDTA agents) doubles up as a clarifying shampoo but a clarifying shampoo will not work as a chelating shampoo.

Therefore, Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo works to both clarify and chelate your scalp and hair.

Since this shampoo works to remove buildup and deposits, make sure to follow up with a moisturizing conditioner and/or deep conditioning treatment!
