2B hair is a subcategory of type 2 wavy hair. It might just be the ideal pattern for those beachy waves, the most versatile hair, and is easy to manage. But that only applies if you use the right products to ensure it always looks and feels its best. Below is a list of my 10 best 2B hair products.
Shampoos
From daily cleansers to clarifying washes, shampoo is an essential haircare product, and finding the right one is crucial for your hair’s health. Try these options for 2B hair:
1. Twist Hit Reset Light Clarifying Shampoo
If there is a product I will keep repurchasing for the foreseeable future, this one is it. It is so gentle that I can use it weekly to eliminate all the product buildup during the week. It truly reboots my hair and makes it feel airy. I only wish it didn’t contain any panthenol, albeit it doesn’t cause harm.
Pros: Affordable
Cons: Contains panthenol and has a strong fragrance
Considerations: Free from mineral oils, petrolatum, phthalates, harsh sulfates, and D4, D5, andD6 silicones
Key Ingredients: Aloe vera, rice protein, jojoba oil, echinacea extract
2. Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Sulfate-Free Shampoo
This shampoo works incredibly well if your hair is really dry or damaged. I started using it because I have bleached hair, and my hair looked and felt terrible from the damage. The formula is extremely moisturizing and leaves my hair feeling clean and fresh. My hair is much healthier and shinier now.
Pros: Scent is divine
Cons: Unspecified fragrance
Considerations: No parabens, sulfates, or artificial colors
Key Ingredients: Aloe leaf juice
Conditioners
After shampooing, conditioner is necessary to restore moisture loss, soften hair, and help with detangling. Check out my favorites below:
3. Twist Weather or Not Elements Defying Conditioner
Textured hair, mine included, doesn’t do well with humidity. After a long and hard search for products, many of which didn’t work, I finally found this conditioner. I like to use it in humid conditions like beach holidays. It helps manageability and detangling, and I spend less time dealing with frizz.
Pros: Lightweight product
Cons: Contains alcohol and unspecified fragrance
Considerations: No sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and mineral oils
Key Ingredients: Aloe vera, coconut oil, argan oil
4. Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Frizz Sealing Conditioner
I have used this for years before realizing I have type 2 wavy hair instead of curls. And it has always worked well to soften my hair and help define my pattern. Albeit enjoying switching up products occasionally, I always come back to this. Plus, I love the fresh, lemony scent!
Pros: Anti-Humidity
Cons: Can require a lot of product
Considerations: No sulfates and parabens or animal testing
Key Ingredients: Shea butter and vitamin E, sunflower seed oil
Leave-In-Conditioners
Leave-conditioners are essential to combat dry hair, frizz, and humidity and help define wave and curl patterns. These are my favorite options:
5. Revlon Professional Uniqone Leave-in
I’ll admit that I bought this on a trendy whim. But I couldn’t pass up all the positive reviews. I can now say this leave-in has 100% lived up to its hype. It doesn’t have the best ingredient list, but it hasn’t caused any issues. It has strengthened my hair and reduced shedding! It also goes a long way.
Pros: Multi-functional
Cons: Pricey
Considerations: Vegan
Key Ingredients: Silk amino acids, propylene glycol
6. OUAI Leave-In-Conditioner & Heat Protectant Spray
I always use leave-in, and I prefer minimal products, so having a formula that doubles as a heat protectant is a game changer. This works incredibly well to moisturize my hair and define my waves. I have fewer bad hair days using this, and the best part is that it is super lightweight.
Pros: Multi-functional
Cons: Pricey
Considerations: Cruelty, sulfate, and paraben-free, keratin-safe, sustainable
Key Ingredients: Tamarin seed extract, panthenol, and vitamin E
Deep Treatments
Deep conditioner masks and oils provide extra nourishment, restore moisture, and repair damage. Here are my picks:
7. Mielle Rosemary Mint Hair Masque
I tried Mielle products following another trend, but I was supremely impressed when I looked up the ingredients and product description. It truly deeply conditions my hair and provides silky smoothness. I also noticed a substantial reduction in hair fall. Plus, it’s made by women for women!
Pros: Affordable
Cons: Formula can be a little heavy for fine hair
Considerations: No parabens, sulfates, paraffin, and mineral oils
Key Ingredients: Biotin, rosemary, mint, coconut oil, honey
8. Cliganic USDA Organic Argan Oil
The factor that attracted me to this formula was the claim of a single-ingredient oil. It is 100% pure with no additives. It works fantastically to nourish, soften, and strengthen my hair. I also use it on my skin, and my favorite part is how lightweight it is, with only a slight scent that easily dissolves.
Pros: Multipurpose benefits
Cons: Pricey for quantity
Considerations: Climate Pledge Friendly, non-GMO certified, vegan, cruelty-free
Key Ingredients: 100% pure, certified argan oil
Stylers
Styling products can be curl creams, gels, mousses, sprays, etc. There are a couple of my favorite options:
9. Davines LOVE Curl Conditioner
Curl creams are always confusing for me. With 2B/2C hair, even the ones that claim to be lightweight can sometimes weigh my hair down or do nothing to define my pattern. Davines has changed the game for me. It is weightless, hydrates and defines hair, adds shine, and tames frizz.
Pros: Rich in protein
Cons: Expensive
Considerations: Clean, recyclable packaging, no parabens or SLS
Key Ingredients: Vitamin B5, almond extract
10. Curlsmith Bouncy Strength Volume Foam
I love this foam. It deeply defines my pattern, makes my 2C sections bouncy, provides shine, and holds my hair all day. I love that it doesn’t make my hair crisp and still provides volume to my flat roots. If you like products with clean ingredients, this mousse will satisfy that requirement.
Pros: Lightweight formula
Cons: Pricey
Considerations: It is free from sulfates, silicones, mineral oils, phthalates, and cruelty. It is also Curly Girl friendly and 100% vegan.
Key Ingredients: Hemp seed oil, wild rice protein, blackcurrant, shitake mushroom, kale leaf and guava
Conclusion
You can officially say goodbye to dull, lifeless, frizzy 2B hair and start enjoying healthy, shiny, defined waves with the right products. The above suggestions are a great place to start finding what works best for your hair needs to begin your journey to luscious hair!
