Pre-poo Scalp Massage:

For the past 9 months, I have been using the Righteous Roots RX as a scalp massage the night before wash day.  To do this, I run the applicator tip along my scalp and squeeze the bottle to get the oil onto my scalp.  Then I use my fingers to distribute the oil and to give my self a scalp massage.  I do this for two reasons: 1) to treat my scalp because I tend to have dry skin and I want to preserve my natural oils as much as possible when washing (especially in Colorado) and 2) to get the oils in my roots.  The hair in my roots is low porosity, so I want to soften the hair to prepare it to take in moisture on wash day.  I have also noticed that using this oil as pre-poo has helped to reduce the amount of detangling I have to do in the shower - and that means less breakage!  Plus, scalp massages have been a great way for me to take a few minutes to breathe and relax during stressful weeks.

Why Righteous Roots?  I want to use hair penetrating oils (like coconut, sunflower, olive), but coconut is too heavy for me to use on its own.  The RRO mix of oils seems to have the right balance for me.  I can tell this because I don’t have a greasy feeling in my roots after washing, but my hair is still shiny and soft.  Since incorporating pre-poo scalp massages into my routine, I've noticed moisturized hair, less frizz, healthier scalp and less tangles/breakage.

In addition to pre-poo scalp massages, I have recently been experimenting with the Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil in my strands, mid-shaft to ends.  This is where my hair tends to be highly porous.  I’m using this hair penetrating oil to help balance moisture during washing by preventing the hair from swelling.  To apply, I put the oil in my palms, rub them together, then use prayers hands to get the oil onto my hair.

Scrunch out the Crunch:

When using a firm hold gel, I like to scrunch out the crunch.  I have noticed that I get better results scrunching out the crunch with a few drops of oil (I use RRO) because that seems to “soften” the crunch instead of “break” it, and I get less frizz.  However, if I use too much oil, my hair gets stringy, so it’s important to not overdo it!

Overnight Routine and Refreshing:

I use the Witch I Love Your Hair Magic mist every night before bed and on refresh days before applying stylers.  This mist is a combination of water and essential oils that you mix by shaking the bottle with crystals inside.  This mist is light enough to give my hair moisture and shine without weighing it down.
