Skintasy Face Cream

I’m sure you’ve been seeing and hearing others rave about the @skintasy products. Well, I’m counting myself among them too. This moisturizer will make your skin feel like it took a drink of water. You literally feel your skin taking it in like a sponge. It’s very hydrating. As with the scrub, I’ve listed & described the first 6 ingredients. See grid below.

Dimethicone is the 4th ingredient and it’s a controversial ingredient so I wanted to talk more in depth about it here. Dimethicone works as an anti-foaming agent, skin protectant and skin conditioner. It prevents water loss by forming a hydrating barrier on the skin. It also acts as a mild water repellent by forming a protective barrier on the skin & can fill in fine lines/wrinkles on the face, giving it a temporary “plump” look.

Separating fact from fiction. It’s been said that Dimethicone “suffocates” the skin and traps bacteria and prevents the skin from sweating and hinder exfoliation. Dimethicone forms a “vapour permeable” barrier, which in essence means our skin will breather and exchanges oxygen. Don’t confuse the ability of it to slow down moisture loss as occlusion. What Dimethicone does is prevent moisture loss BUT allows skin to BREATHE!

It functions as a non-greasy occlusive agent, putting a thin water-impermeable film over skin that exhibits increased transepidermal water loss. It is not true that prolonged exposure to Dimethicone can increase skin irritation. As a matter of fact, sunscreens are often coated with Dimethicone to PREVENT irritation to the skin. Silicones do not interfere with the skin's ability to repair the skin barrier when used.

The cosmetic industry values this ingredient for its powerful ability to keep the skin adequately lubricated, even during the driest and harshest winter weather. It also does not clog the pores. It provides a significant amount of emollience and coverage to the skin without any added heaviness. the FDA has approved its use as a "skin protectant" ingredient. Furthermore, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel reviewed the data surrounding Dimethicone and asseses it as safe to use. They determined that because the large molecular weight of silicone based polymers such as dimethicone, it would be very unlikely for it to penetrate past the surface of the skin.

Hope this clears things up about dimethicone on the skin. On another note, I love these products so much so that I asked the company to give me a discount code for my followers. Here's my code : Muse. You can purchase them on skintasy's website.
